Food for thought. food for the soul.

Can buying a cookie make a difference in some ones life? At The 490 Bakery, we think so. We provide hope, and support to previously incarcerated men and women allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community. Crime in Muskegon County in 2016 was at 78.85% for violent crime, which was higher than the national rate of 55.82%. These individuals need our help. They need direction. The 490 Bakery is intentional about being a part of the solution for hope and restoration

our Ingredients also include the city of Muskegon.

Each cookie at The 490 Bakery has a personality. A simple name of a beautiful neighborhood within the city of Muskegon. Muskegon, a city of renewal. Generations of family and heritage. Deep roots and the future. In similar fashion The 490 Bakery has a mission of restoration and renewal; renewal of people and community. Restoration of lives that have been impacted by struggle. With a purchase at The 490 Bakery you help enable our mission to bring hope to those struggling with poverty and addiction after returning home from incarceration. These individuals, once given the chance, can contribute in meaningful ways to not only help their families, but their community as well.

doing good never tasted so good…

We are Davine and Brian. Both of us were born and raised in Muskegon. We were childhood sweethearts who shared a love of sweet bake goods. Today we are combining our talents, determination, and love of creating, baking and community into a commitment to help others see their full potential. You can say we’re… Baking Life Sweeter!

The founding principles of The 490 Bakery:

“We all matter. We are all unique. We all have worth and a need for a second chance. Together we can build hope and restore what each other needs… belonging and forgiveness… one cookie at a time. Our children and our community need a future that speaks of hope.

“Life is short, surround yourself with good people, forgive others, and only eat good cookies!”
